About Ti-Ratana Heights Vihāra

Ti-Ratana Heights is a Buddhist Vihāra in Seri Kembangan and a branch of the Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society, serving as a shared spiritual and community space for diverse Buddhist traditions and local communities. The Vihāra is home to resident Sangha including Bhante Palitha Thero and a Burmese Sayadaw, and also regularly hosts visiting Vietnamese monks who support Buddhist practice, observances, and community engagement.

Situated on a hill about 500 ft above sea level on over 8 acres of land, in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia with a serene and peaceful environment, suitable for Buddhist practice, meditation and prayer, Ti-Ratana Heights is an all-in-one purpose-built spiritual destination for the next generation.

Ti-Ratana Heights is actively shared with lay Vietnamese Buddhist youth, Burmese Buddhists, and the wider Malaysian Buddhist community, including Baba Nyonya, Sinhalese, and Chinese devotees. As part of the wider Ti-Ratana network, the Heights community contributes to Buddhist education, cultural observances, and outreach, including collaborative efforts in supporting and co-managing Ti-Ratana’s digital and community platforms, within a welcoming, non-proselytising environment shaped by Humanistic Buddhist values and an Ekayāna (shared Buddhist) approach to practice and community life.

The History of Ti-Ratana Heights Vihāra

The Ti-Ratana Heights Vihāra was originally part of another spiritual institute in Balakong constructed in the 1970s. The 8.21 acre plot of land at Lot 8604 was eventually acquired by Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society in 2020-2021 from a local private property development company, while Burmese Buddhists helped with the upkeep of the compound through the years.​​ 

 

Historical research indicates that the wider Balakong area formerly contained the Yan Kee Leong Bahá’í Institute, a national Bahá’í training facility developed from land acquired in the late 1970s and used for conventions, schools and training programmes. Contemporary Bahá’í recollections also record that Steven Chang Sin, who assisted in developing the Institute, purchased separate land nearby and constructed a private residence so that he could remain close to the project.

In the late 2010s, KYK Land was clearing the area for development and found a stone tablet of the Usnisa Vijaya Dharani on our lot's portion of the overall development site. Our lot was then allocated for religious use for Buddhism, and Ti-Ratana Heights subsequently acquired the land.

 

Research is ongoing into whether the surviving building now occupied by Ti-Ratana Heights formed part of this neighbouring residential property.​
